Hawkins County Library System

Library Cards:
Library Cards are free to anyone who lives, works, attends school, or owns property in Hawkins County. Non-residents whose library participates in the Tennessee Library Card program and who are in good standing with their home library are also eligible for a library card. You must have a photo ID and proof of your address in order to obtain a library card.

Library Cards are required to check out materials within the Hawkins County Library System. The card holder is responsible for all items borrowed on the card as well as fines, fees, and any other costs associated with recovery of overdue or non-returned items. A parent or guardian must sign a responsibility statement for minors under the age of 16.  A $5.00 replacement fee applies for lost, stolen, or damaged cards.

Borrowing Guidelines:
For the first 30 days there is a limit of two items. After the first 30 days the borrower may check out:

  • a maximum of 10 items
  • no more than three (3) videos or DVDs
  • no more than three (3) items by the same author
  • no more than three (3) items on the same subject

Books, Magazines, and Audios can be checked out for up to 14 days. DVDS and Videos can be checked out for 7 days.

All items are loaned out free of charge:
Books : Adult Fiction and Non-fiction; Young Adult Fiction and Non-fiction; Children's Fiction and Non-fiction
Magazines: each library has their own selection of magazines for check out
Audios: Books on CD and cassette
DVD and Videos

Renewals:
Renewals can be made by phone, in person, or through our card catalog. If using our card catalog, you will need your barcode number located on the back of your patron card. You will also need your four (4) digit PIN {5 digits for Church Hill numbers}. Your PIN is the last four (4) digits {5 digits for Church Hill numbers} of your patron barcode. Books, magazines, and audios can be renewed up to a maximum of two times as long as the item(s) are not on reserve. DVDs and videos can not be renewed.

Interlibrary Loan:
The Library System has Interlibrary Loan within the library system and throughout the State of Tennessee free of charge to our patrons. If your home library does not have an item that you would like we can request it from another library in our system (IBL - Interbranch Loan) or within the State (ILL - Interlibrary Loan). Our staff would be happy to assist you with obtaining an item from another library. You can also reserve an item within the Hawkins Library System through our card catalog using your patron barcode and four (4) digit PIN {5 digits for Church Hill numbers}.

Fines and Fees:
Books, Magazines, and Audios: $.15 per day per item past the due date
DVD/Videos: $1.00 per day per item past the due date
*Borrowing privileges will be suspended if fines exceed $5.00 or item(s) are more than 15 days overdue

Copier for $.15 per page
